Financial Overview

Terminology

TermDescription
Application FeeThe fee charged when users import an application that has an associated cost (one-time fee, monthly fee, or a run-time fee). See Application Fee for additional context.
Base priceThe fee associated with the annual subscription plan.
Bundle

bundle is a plan type that gives the user a fixed dollar amount of usage or a fixed VM-hour limit.

Concurrent VMsThe number of simultaneously running VMs permitted to each user under a monthly usage plan
Contract

Every CloudCenter plan requires a contract. CloudCenter administrators can enforce the user to accept a Terms of Contract agreement that dictates how long this agreement should last. A CloudCenter contract does not automatically renew when the contract ends. Once a contract ends, users have the option to switch to another contract.

Discount rateContracts sometimes have a discount rate that provides users an incentive to sign a longer contract. Typically, a longer contract length has a deeper discount rate. This discount is applied to a plan's base one-time fee, annual fee, bundle price, and monthly subscription fee (Cisco does not discount overage and storage fees).
Plan fee
  • Overage fee: Implemented on an hourly basis when a user runs out of the plan allowance (monthly subscription or bundle credit).
  • One-time fee: Implemented when the admin initially sets up the plan.
  • Annual fee: Implemented if the user prefers an annual charge for a prepaid plan on a specific day each year. This fee does not apply to subscription plans, as that plan is only available on a monthly basis.
Minimum chargeThe minimum number of minutes deducted from a plan when a user runs an application.
Monthly VM hoursThe number of VM hours credited to the user each month.
Maximum Running VMsThe number of VMs permitted to the user each month.
One-time FeeThe fee is charged each time the user changes from one plan to another.
Overage limit
  • The fee charged if users exceed the limit stipulated in the subscription.

  • Admins can decide if they want to charge a fee when users exceed the limit:

    • Limited: Stops deployment after reaching limit (specified fee is charged)
    • Unlimited (default): Continues deployment after overage rate kicks in (no additional charge
Overage rateThe cost per hour if a user exceeds the Overage Limit.
Plan

plan is an agreement determined by the admin and assigned to a user to determine the capacity or allowed usage for that user.

Users must accept plans assigned to them by their admins to start using CloudCenter.

Runtime

Runtime refers to the number of hours:

  • VM: The number of hours that the VM has been running as part of a deployment
  • External Service: The number of hours for which the service has been active as part of a deployment

Overview

A contract and a plan work together – when you assign a plan you must assign a contract.

  • If you change a user's plan and also check the Renew Contract check box, it resets the contract period (see Usage Plan for additional context).

  • If you assign a plan to a user, the user signs a contract for a period of time.

  • If the user cancels the contract before the contract period ends, the user might be subject to a One-Time Fee.

You can change your plan at any time. However, when you change your plan, you renew your contract period, and will be back to being on the new plan for the entire span of your contract. For example:

  1. You sign a contract for 2 years.

  2. You change your plan a year after the contract period starts (and you still have a year of your contract remaining).

  3. As you changed your plan before your contract period ended (2 years), your contract period restarts and you will be on the new plan for 2 more years (NOT one year).

Who Creates Contract, Bundles, or Plans?

The root or tenant admin can create contract, bundles, and plans. The tenant admin can belong to an enterprise or to Cisco depending on the deployment. The CloudCenter documentation generally refers to both as the administrator (or admin).

If the admin does not set up a contract plan or bundle for a user, then that user cannot deploy any application.

Admins have the following flexibility when creating contract dependencies:

  • Restrict certain contracts, bundles, and plans to just admins so it is not available to all users.

  • Edit or delete contract, bundles, and plans if no users have signed up. If users have signed up, the admin must create a new contractbundle, or plan and revise the required settings.

  • Reset the contract start date for an active user.

  • Delete a bundle if that bundle is not assigned to any user.

CloudCenter Plan Types

When creating a plan in CloudCenter, the administrator must select one of five possible plan types that are summarized in the following table.

Category

Plan Types

Subscription

VM Hour Subscription (Default)

  • Specifies a limit for the number of VM hours per month
  • Enable Rollover:  If checked, any unused VM hour balance will rollover to the next month.
  • Overage Limit and Overage Rate

VM Subscription

  • Allows a specified number of concurrent VMs across all supported clouds
  • Overage Limit and Overage Rate
  • The VM count begins as soon as the VM is deployed

Unlimited Subscription

  • Does not have any limitations on usage
  • Users in this plan are not limited to VM hours, number of VMs, or a budget limit

Bundle

VM-Hour Bundle

  • Specifies a limit for the the total number of VM-hours used. You can start new deployments until this VM-hour amount is consumed.
  • Usage Increment Units: If checked, units above the limit are rounded up to the next level (for example, 11 minutes of actual usage with a 10-minute increment unit will be metered as 20 minutes).
  • Overage Limit and Overage Rate

Budget Bundle

  • Specifies a limit for the total currency spent. You can start new deployments until this currency amount is consumed.
  • Overage Limit and Overage Rate
  • If your admin sets up a management fee (for example, $0.10 per hour), then this amount is deducted from the currency limit.
  • Any additional cloud cost is also deducted from the currency limit

Common Options for All Plan Types

The parameters and check box selections that the following table describes are available to all plan types.

Parameter/Check BoxDescription
Usage Details
Only Visible to Tenant Admin
  • If checked, this plan is only visible to the tenant admin.
  • Default = unchecked.
  • See Configure Cloud(s) for additional context.
Plan Fees

Recurring Fee

  • This is a tenant imposed management fee in addition to any cloud provider charges. In the case of VM-hour bundles, this is an annual fee. In the case of Budget bundles, this is an hourly fee. For all other plan types, this is a monthly fee.
One-time Fee
  • This is charged to the user every time they sign up for this plan

Meter Applications

Integrated metering, reporting, and billing ensure that users are always aware of their consumption and are charged appropriately for what they use.

  • The CCO monitors and meters deployed applications through the Management Agent. Monitoring and metering data is sent to the CCM for reporting purposes. The CCO continues to enforce deployment policies created by the user. For example, a user may have associated a deployment with an auto-scaling policy. The CCO continues to monitor the deployed application and orchestrates scaling as specified by the user in the policy.

  • IT can meter usage and issue departmental chargebacks, so that the users get the immediacy they need but IT controls and enforces the required mechanisms.

  • CloudCenter meters end user activity and enforces custom plans.
